Best Father’s Day Photo Ideas (DIY)

It’s that time of year again where we all want to show our fathers, role models, and guardians how much we appreciate everything they do for us. We all want to outshine one another and prove to our dads that they are truly the best father in the world! What better way to do that than with some home-shot photographs. We’ve searched high and low for the most creative, funny, and all-around amazing photo ideas you can create at home! Keep in mind, you don’t necessarily need to have a $2,000 camera. A good iphone or decent camera, some filters (we love Camera+ from the Itunes download store), and a decent editing site (we love Picmonkey.com), and you’ve got yourself a million dollar shot! Go ahead, give dad the best Father’s Day gift he deserves!

Behold, our favorite Father’s Day idea photos:

1) Write “I LOVE YOU DAD’ on your children’s feet and photograph them with only their feet in focus (if possible).

2) We found a common trend with chalk: get creative and have the kids lay over your masterpiece!

4) Have the kids hold up signs of things like “Daddy, I love you because…” or “Daddy, I love you more than…”

DIY Fun Glitter Easter Eggs to Crack

Blue glitter Easter egg with Start Pure written in silver glitter

We’ve seen a ton of awesome and fun projects for the whole family to do on Easter, but this one specifically caught our eye.  It’s an easy DIY that almost anyone can enjoy, from kids to adults to everyone in between!  Why not grab some fun crafting materials and make the coolest Easter eggs ever? Go ahead and awe everyone around you, and have a blast cracking the eggs over your friends and family!

Keep in mind, we only used a handful of products to make a variety of eggs; but you can twist and customize everything to your own liking!

Things You’ll Need:  Glitter, Double-Sided Tape, Scissors, Fun Crafting Paper (or simply just wrapping paper), Fruity Pebbles, Glue Stick, Sticker Letters, Egg Dye & Vinegar, & Tissue Paper

Let’s begin….

IMG_6807 image-13Grab your glitter and double sided tape.  Place the double sided tape on your hollow egg in whatever pattern you’d like, making stripes, shapes, or anything your mind creates (we went with stripes, which turned out amazing)!

image-11

image-10Use different colored glitter and try placing the tape in different directions to create cool designs!

image-8

image-9Here, we simply placed these alphabet glitter stickers on the blue dyed egg OVER some double sided tape, then put blue glitter over the tape (it didn’t adhere to the alphabet stickers since those are not double sided).  Create names for the kids, friends, and even businesses!

image-7 image-6

We also went ahead and carved out a small hole on the bottom of the egg where we stuffed the egg with even more glitter and Fruity Pebbles.  To close up the hole and get it ready for cracking, we used double sided tape to adhere some crafting paper over the hole.

image-12 image-4Here, we took crafting (or wrapping) paper and cut it into long 1&1/2 inch strips to allow us to glue the paper onto the egg’s round surface easily.  We also went ahead and added glitter star stickers for an extra effect!

You can always make up your own little concoction to fill inside your eggs!  Glitter is always a good idea, so we loaded most of our eggs with it!  One of the easiest ways to close up the hole you created is by adhering a small piece of tissue paper with double sided tape (this allows for an easy spill when you crack the egg).

The final result was this fun and colorful egg carton! Voila!

Get creative and get everyone involved, but most importantly remember to have fun!

Incorporate Coconut Oil Benefits into your Beauty Routine

Coconuts and coconut oil, backdrop of green leaves

There are very few products that can be called cure-all, but coconut oil comes pretty close. When you think of a coconut you probably don’t realize all of the amazing benefits the oil this magical fruit contains. The uses for coconut oil seem endless and the oil can be applied in different aspect of your life to help you achieve optimal health. Especially, if you care about eliminating nasty chemicals from your life you can incorporate coconut oil into your beauty, health and cooking routines and not have to worry about exposing yourself to toxic chemicals. Now lets delve into what these benefits are and why all this coco talk will have you thinking: what can’t coconut oil do for you?

Let’s start with all the beautifying coconut oil benefits. We are going to list just some of the beauty applications here because the list can go on for days:

  1. Moisturizer for softer and Smoother Skin

Coconut oil is composed of medium chain fatty acids that when applied to the skin keeps it smooth. Due to the presence of these fats, coconut oil also retains the moisture content of the skin, as the fats eliminate moisture loss through the pores on skin. Also, coconut oil is great for rough and dry skin. Use it as body oil, keep a jar near your bath and slather it on after a shower. It will leave you smelling like a beach vacation all day long.

  1. Anti-aging cream

Did someone say anti-aging? Coconut oil is filled with antioxidants and naturally contains vitamin E enhancing its skin nourishing and anti-aging properties. The benefits of vitamin E are well known but above all it prevents premature aging and wrinkles! Use a dab of coconut oil in lieu of an under eye cream to target fine lines and wrinkles. The purest form of coconut oil is very safe to use on the delicate area under your eyes. Also, coconut oil has a natural SPF of 4 and naturally protects your skin from the aging effects of the sun exposure.

  1. Hydrates your hair

Coconut oil can either be used as a deep conditioner or leave-in conditioner. Ultimately, coconut oil seals in moisture and penetrates deep into the hair shaft past the cuticle and protecting it from protein loss. It strengthens your hair, encourages new hair growth, and treats dandruff and repairs over processed hair. All of these great benefits can be achieved without a single toxic chemical that can be found in many other hair products that don’t tackle all of the mentioned hair problems at once.

  1. Breath Freshener

Coconut oil has antifungal and antibacterial properties. Gargling for 20 minutes with a spoonful of oil (a.k.a. oil pulling) can help clear up germs in the mouth, leading to fresher breath, whiter teeth, and healthier gums.

To take your oral care routine to the next level check out the Start Pure oral care products. The Start Pure peroxide free pen formula is coconut derived making whitening your teeth safe and harmless.

  1. Makeup remover

Coconut oil is your secret weapon against even the toughest waterproof mascaras. Apply some to your lashes or anywhere else you have make up it will literally melt away. Additional bonus is that coconut oil also nourishes your lashes without tugging the makeup off which can encourage lash growth.

  1. Stretch Mark Cream

You expecting baby mamas should keep a jar of this magical oil handy because it can help prevent stretch marks. In fact, coconut can be used as topical treatment for anyone with scars. Now it won’t fade any marks but it will prevent dark spots and blisters forming around the area. Also, it can reduce the appearance of varicose veins.

What other ways do you like to incorporate coconut oil into your daily lifestyle?

#50ShadesofGrey Teeth

The book, 50 Shades of Grey, has sold over 100 million copies worldwide, making it the globe’s best selling erotic romance. Now the steamy trailer has been released, causing a frenzy among fantasy-lovers and called a work of genius due in part to Beyonce’s rework of Crazy In Love.

Whether fantasy-lover, romance novel enthusiast, or not, you don’t need to be crazy in love with 50 Shades of Grey to run into it everywhere you go this week. However getting the movie out of your head is a bit easier than the shades of grey that could form on your teeth. But we’re here to help. Below are 4 things you can do to prevent and treat greying teeth.

What causes teeth to grey?

1. Teeth can become grey from trauma to the teeth. This is also referred to as a ‘dead tooth,’ which is actually a tooth that no longer receives any blood flow. One of the biggest causes of ‘dead teeth’ is sports injuries to the mouth, which are very preventable. Wearing a mouthguard is one of the simplest ways to prevent such misfortunes.

2. Teeth can also become grey from antibiotics such as tetracycline. Tetracycline is often prescribed to people with bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections and acne. Before extensive research and today’s technology, this antibiotic was commonly given to pregnant women and children under the age of 8 whose teeth were not fully developed. This caused different shades of grey in the teeth that we see in older generations. When taking such antibiotics, proper precautions should be taken.

3. Another cause of grey teeth is the industrial exposure to some metals such as iron or manganese before teeth are fully formed. Most workplaces have regulations, but it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and know what facilities you’re entering.

4. Believe it or not, tooth fillings and crowns that are administered incorrectly can eventually ‘die’ off and become grey. They can become grey over time and should be watched carefully if these signs occur. It is important to visit a dental professional if any pain or abnormal discolorations appear. A dental professional can most likely help in a situation like this, and products such as Start Pure™ Nite & Day Clinical Strength Teeth Whitening System can improve the greying discoloration.

There are many factors that can contribute to grey and ‘dead’ teeth, but fortunately there are products that can help! Following a good oral care regimen is also very important in the prevention of grey teeth. Brushing and flossing regularly can prevent buildup of bacteria and food that gets lodged between teeth and gums, and can cause infection and eventually ‘dead teeth.’ For teeth that have a greyish tint (but are not dead), Start Pure® has an extremely effective line of products that can improve the look and shade of teeth.

DIY: Spice up your Home with Succulents

Succulents are some of the easiest plants to care for. They require very little water (great for those of us who don’t have time to constantly water our plants), and are very visually pleasing. They can brighten up an entire home and bring life to dead spaces. We’re going to share some easy DIY projects you can take up by yourself or as a special project with the whole family.  Best part about it?  They require almost no work once you’re finished!

Things you’ll need for a SUCCULENT WREATH:

Variety of Succulent plants (you can find some at your local gardening store, even places like Lowe’s and Home Depot should have some)

Ready-made sphagnum moss wreath (find at your gardening or craft store)

Craft/Floral Pins (find at your local florist or craft store)

succulent wreath

Begin by cutting your succulents with a 1-2 inch stem. Let these sit overnight so that the ends callus. Take your ready-made moss wreath and fully immerse it into water and allow it to fully soak. Then go ahead and take your assortment of succulents and plant them into your wreath (make things easy on yourself and poke a small hole with scissors so that the stem can easily be inserted into the wreath). If necessary, take craft or floral pins and place them over the succulents around the wreath (this will help secure them). That’s it, VOILA! You now have the most beautiful wreath in the neighborhood!

Things you’ll need for SUCCULENT WINE BOTTLES:

Variety of Succulent plants (you can find some at your local gardening store, even places like Lowe’s and Home Depot should have some)

Ready-made cut out wine bottle (find them on etsy here or craft stores)

Potting mix (find at gardening or home improvement stores)

Regular Gravel

Aquarium Gravel

succulent wine bottle

This is probably one of the easiest and most unique DIY’s ever! Begin by pouring some potting mix into a large mixing bowl, and then top it off with regular gravel. Mix the potting mix and regular gravel together and add water to moisten this new mix. Pour this mix into the ready-made wine bottles, then go ahead and arrange your succulents. Once the succulents are placed where you like them, add aquarium gravel (get creative and pick different colors, or stick to one color) around the plants so the soil is covered. Voila, you’ll have your friends asking you where you got them!

10 Most Interesting and Fascinating Facts about Smiling

1)      Smiles are contagious:  Believe it or not, scientists say smiles really are contagious!  In a Swedish study conducted, people had a difficult time frowning when they looked at other subjects who were smiling; their muscles twitched into smiles all on their own!

2)      Forcing yourself to smile can boost your mood:  Psychologists have found that you can instantly lift your spirits by forcing yourself to smile.  So smile wide even when you’re feeling down!

3)     Smiling is a reflex everyone is born with:  Smiling is a reflex action all babies are born with.  Scientists believe we’re all born with the ability to smile since blind newborns can smile without picking it up from surroundings.

4)      Smiles Relieve Stress:  Smiling can immediately release endorphins, causing an increase in your mood.  This ‘better’ mood will help you feel better and can immediately release some stress.

5)      It boosts your immune system, think of it as medicine:  Like we mentioned in our previous fact, smiling can relieve stress, therefore it also boosts your immune system.  Since endorphins are released, your body will tend to relax which will contributes to better health and a stronger immune system.

5 Easy Teeth Whitening Tips & Tricks for Women

Tip # 1:

Drink Through a Straw

It is estimated that over 50% of Americans over the age of 18 drink coffee every single day!  Do you know what this means?  Fifty percent of Americans are constantly staining their teeth!  One of the simplest ways to avoid yellowing your teeth is by drinking through a straw; and this goes for all staining drinks such as red wines and dark juices.

Tip #2:

Your Lips Can Make a Difference

Yup, that’s right: your lips can absolutely make a difference in the appearance of your smile!  Digging into your purse for a random lipstick?  Try this instead:

Pick a cooler tone with a brown base if you have grayish teeth (genetic or stained from fluorosis).

Image

Pick a warmer tone such as lipsticks with bluish undertones if you have a yellow tone to your teeth.

Tip #3:

Whiten While You’re On-The-Go

In a hurry and think you don’t have time to perform a professional teeth whitening process on your teeth?  Think again.  The Start Pure® ACTIVE teeth whitening pens are the perfect solution for the busy, on-the-go person.  Apply these pens to the surface of your teeth while you drive, before you work out, or even during your lunch break.  It’s as simple as brushing the gel onto your teeth, holding a smile for 30 seconds, and going about your day (no need to rinse, the gel dissolves naturally)!  Wow, talk about easy; and the best part is that they’re professional strength!

ImageImage

 Tip #4:

Bronze Up!

It’s true that the color of your skin can make your teeth appear whiter!  While we don’t recommend natural sun tanning, such as lying out in the sun, we do suggest using a 50+ sunblock and applying a tanning lotion over that (we love the Maui Babe Browning Lotion).  We also don’t recommend artificial tanning, such as tanning beds!  Instead, pick up a good bronzer (we’re also loving the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil) at your local beauty store or apply a spray tan.  Voila!  A more golden look will make your teeth and eyes pop!

Image

Tip #5:

Get a Good Toothbrush

By good, we mean a professional electric toothbrush.  Although these toothbrushes can get a little pricey, most dentists highly recommend them because they are very effective at removing stains.  Our dentists recommend Start Pure® Sonic Toothbrushes since the sonic technology removes more plaque, stains, and buildup than a regular toothbrush.  So, you were going to brush your teeth 2-3 times a day regardless, right?  Why not brush them with technology that will improve and whiten your smile?!

We hope you found these tips and tricks helpful.  If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comment section below.  We are always more than willing to give recommendations!  Good luck brightening your smile!
